Just to add, many of the signs point to Russia, but Tubal and Mechech in 38:2 are physically located in northern Turkey. And Gog and Magog are the princes of the region (38:2). The markers given in the bible could be reasonably interpreted as either Turkey or Russia (and it may be both). (The blog gives the justification for Russia.)
Secondly, the author doesn't go into this, but we have the curious phrase in 38:4 "I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws,". The implication is of course that the invader has been in Israel before, and the two likely candidates (Turkey and Russia) have both been there before. Turkey with the Ottoman empire, and Russia during the cold war (indirectly).
Both candidates have a reason
-Turkey because of Islam, and they just turned from faithful ally of the US to faithful ally of Islam.
-Russia, because they are fueling their prosperity through oil and natural gas, and Israel just tapped into one of the largest natural gas deposits in the world. Russia is also using their energy trading as a weapon to keep Europe and other border nations in line and may not appreciate Israel loosening Russia's grip on them.
The student of prophecy has good reason to watch in excited awe at the hand of God on human history.

I don't see Turkey being much of a "Threat" to anyone but itself. But Russia ( still the Soviets) and China sure. That would be a HUGE army put together! Turkey would just be a "Doorway" ( or Turkey could be frontline cannon fodder ) to go thru to get to Israel. America will be mentally and financially unable to do anything about it. ( Europe as well ) Just my guess.

"(Turkey) and their allies".....Islam is the religion of Turkey....and incidentally...its' allies. The general area. Persia has a new name...it is 'Iran". The new naming came after Hitler suggested it in a meeting with the sheik and his people during WW2. The word is Farsi for "Land Of Aryan" or Aryan Lands. All of the lands noted of old have current lands and are Islamist societies.
That IS a problem....as they are set against Israel...so be they set against God....
This war has been coming for a long time. These peoples have been waging war in their own lands for centuries and now we get involved with much of the rest of the world in this one place.
I compare current day Israel like our Alamo Mission which became a fort. Small numbers, surrounded by huge numbers and unable to escape.
That IS a problem....as they are set against Israel...so be they set against God....
