Something is wrong with my Jeep.
1993 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0, AW-4 trans, full time 4x4, 130,000 miles.
Took it to the mountains for a day trip today it is the first trip of any distance I have ever taken it on.
The damned thing ran flawlessly and got 25MPG.
Something has to be wrong here.
I don't believe your math unless you filled up at the top of mountain.

He shifted into neutral and shut off all the way down.
But seriously OP, good work.
That's damn good for a 4.0 Jeep. My '99 Cherokee usually doesn't get much over 20mpg.

You're right, it was 24.5.
194 miles and 7.9 gallons.
65 miles per hour over varied terrain with the A/C blowing cold and into a stormfront.
I was goint to trade it for a full size SUV but I think I'll keep it.

i think your pump shut off early. i have a 2000 WJ with the 4.0 and selectrac(full/part time 4wd) in 2wd and dont get anywhere near that. even on new plugs, new air filter and synthetic in everything on long trips we MIGHT get 20 but for day to day its 17-18.

It's ok, MPG claims are the most widely exaggerated.

I believe his claim. But then I had a 98.5 Cummins with a manual that got 26 MPG.

I don't. I wonder what the OP typically sees as fuel mileage? Probably not 25.

As I said, it's the first real out of town trip I have taken it on.
Around town I get around 350-375 miles on a tank. I think it's a 22 gal tank.
My old 94 would get 23 or 24 on a good long freeway run, so I can believe that. It's a matter of getting it in the sweet spot and leaving it there. (If you've got the computer in the roof, it can help you find that sweet spot)
My 97 didn't do as well on the MPG's, it would be lucky to hold 20-21.
If this is true, bravo.
Having owned four Jeeps, none of them got above 20 mpg's, not even the 4cyl Wrangler.
Have had a '92, '94, and a '95 Cherokee and a '95 Wrangler. My '92 got between 10 and 14 mpg in the city and maybe 16 on the highway, the 94 was pitiful and the 95 was the same as my '92
My Wrangler barely got 18 mpg but mileage is not the reason I owned the Jeeps. I seriously think your math got wierd or something, if you seriously got 25mpg, that's outstanding and I would keep it too.
You got gas from a different pump that cut off sooner
I've never seen a 4.0 get over 22 MPG and the one that did was a 2wd 5speed stripper Cherokee.
From a zj with a full time x-fer case not gonna happen. Report back after three more fills and tell us what your average is.

I had an '04 with V-8 and full time 4wd that would get as much as 21 on the highway at 75-80 and get 16-18 around town as long as I didn't drive it like I stole it. My old 98 5.9 limited would get the same mileage even with bigger tires and a lift, but I made a few tweaks to that one.
The Jeep is fine, it's your calculator that has something wrong with it.

I did get rid of the mechanical fan and installed a Taurus electric fan.
Might have helped. Couldn't have hurt.
I have owned every kind of jeep made up to 1999 and the best I could get was 17 mpg.
I have owned a 1946 willys, a 54 cj3b, 75 cj5,78 cj5 maybe 6 cj7's. Every style of Wagoneer 2door,4 door and the truck version. I have had 2 Cherokees and one Grand. Finally a 1999 wrangler.
Right now I Have an 88 wrangler with a GM 4.3, 700r4 and 231t case. Its my 2nd Favorite of all time except for my Yellow 78 CJ5 with 232 straight 6. I miss that one.

The 4.3 is a great swap for the YJ.
Old CJs though are just cool. Really want a CJ8 with the 258.

No if that was the case it would have been much higher.
I got 109.5 mpg in my jeep.
