Almost a month ago I ordered a bumper for my heep. They come unfinished. How should I finish it, paint, powdercoat?

New bumper

It will be mounted to this.

Powdercoat gets my vote. My heep sports 2 powder coated custom bumpers and I really like the looks and durability.

I vote powder coat. Just remember to account for the coating's thickness when installing.

Paint wont last as long as powder coating.

Alternatively, you could dip it. Check this site out for the dipping outcomes:

Ha! I've thought about krylon. I may do that just until I find a place that can do something better.

Gator Guard bed liner, I did my bumpers - tough as nails and looks awesome. I get lots of compliments.

Rustoleum.

Powder Coat is nice, but is HIGHLY depended on the prep work. If its not done right it will peel off in sheets, and if you use your jeep spray paint is easier to touch up.

Chrome! Because that extra 200 lbs of bumper is really going to help with those mall crawler tires

I'd say get some good paint and shoot it on after prepping it good. That way if you scuff it you can just touch it up at home.

Crap, you just reminded me that I need new tires. Rustoleum is sounding better and better.

I use Rustoleum or Krylon for metal.

When it gets scratched, it's much easier to fix. Powder coat is nice, but it will chip and scratch...taking it off an on for a refinish would be a major PITA.

The spray on bedliner that's advertised with kevlar in it. Did the bumpers on my Cherokee and its been awesome. 11$ a spray can and works great.

Agreed.

I have found that while rustoleum takes longer to dry the finished product is much more durable than the krylon.

My rear tire carrier got the rustoleum treatment and its going strong for 4 years now.

Scuff, clean, prime, paint. I also used 3 final coats.

My vote goes to the bedliner.............if not then powder coat them..
