Anyone here made the transition to becoming a consultant? I'm in the process and have a bunch of questions, ranging from how much to charge, how to calculate quotes, etc...

Help from anyone who's done it and can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I would think that a lot of the useful advice you might get would depend on the type of consulting you intended to do. Any hints on the general field?

It's going to be providing support for parachute testing and training.

You'll have to pay all your own taxes, remember SS and Medicare are actually double what is listed on a regular employee's paycheck. (that second half is always and exclusively paid out of the goodwill of the company's heart I'm told)
Depending on the industry, you'll spend 10%-50% of your time whoring yourself out in the shortest dress you're willing to wear. I wasn't willing to hack this part.

Good luck!

Is it geared toward government or private sector?

I can offer no advice on either. But having recently set up a business in Virginia I could give you significant advice on the mechanics of doing that aspect of the business.

Combination of both. Conducting training for the government guys and helping civilian companies with systems they are working on.

Guess I'll look into talking with a lawyer...
