it tooke me 2 days to get from BAF to Arizona i was out of kuwait in less than 18 hours

word of advice. if this is your first tour and your single with no kids. DONT GO HOME! youll regret it. go someplace youd never go otherwise. i went home my first tour and hated it. went to greece my second tour and had a fuckin blast! australia is nice this time of year! either way, stay safe and have fun!

You really only spend a max of 3 days at the Dragon R&R station going out of country. So you should make it. Most people make it out of there in less than 24 hours from what I've seen.

Same with me.

Also here is a trick for you, all of the flights from your hub in the US that are heading back to A-stan leave at 2pm or 3pm, so what you need to do is call the airlines and reschedule your flight from your home state to the hub to land after 3pm, and when you get to the airport you head to the R and R terminal tell them your flight came in late and they will put you in a nice hotel near the airport and you get 1-3 extra days in the states.

It won't fuck with your leave dates at all because your leave packet will get stamped the day you come into your hub, so even though your not flying back to country you are still considered "On Time"

Excuse me for going off here for a moment

Your post exemplifies why you 4s are famously called shammers.

Not for nothing, but when I can only have 10% of my guys going or coming back on leave at any given time, you hanging around the airport in Atlanta or around Ali Al Salem getting fat on McDs and Subway, or around KAF and Green Beans...means that you are screwing the rest of the Team over. It is great that you went home. You enjoyed your 15 days. Guess what: its over. I understand that it sucks to be going back. Unless you're an un-needed FOBBIT who was just filling a chair at the chow hall, a position in line at the AAFES or dawdling on the Boardwalk, your Team needs you back.

I understand delays happen. Planes turn around because of mechanical problems, whatever the excuse. There is work that needs to be done. You had your break. The next guy needs his break as well. The Team still needs enough manpower to roll out the gate. Yes, it sucks. The tour will be over some day and you can look back and complain all you want about the conditions you had to live in.

There will be enough time for your shamming games when the tour is over and you are on your drill weekends complaining about how the SNCOs didn't spoonfeed you enough interesting training this month.

+1

Not cool screwing your buddies. A good chunk of my unit didn't get any leave during our last tour because of the 10% rule, our time on ground, and the most important part: % on leave can not impact the mission.

Plane break down, weather comes up - ok, it happens, not your fault.

Intentionally "working the system" to get some extra days isn't just screwing your buddies, it's also fraud. If I knew one of my Soldiers pulled that little stunt, I'd be in JAG's office starting a UCMJ packet before you got done telling your story to the rest of the Mafia.

First off that is bullshit to do something like that. Assuming your a reservist maybe you dont know what the real army is like but with a unit like mine (i wont violate OPSEC by giving specifics) but we have way more the %10 gone so bullshit like that makes the entire companys life harder. So congrats on your extra 3 days of leave and the extra hardship you put on your unit. You should turn in your sham shield for a blue falcon or maybe just keep your day job at mcdonalds

When I went on R&R last year, I was at BAF for about a week before I got a flight for Kuwait. Granted it was icy and cold(November). Then I was in Kuwait for 3 days I think. I'm assuming things have stepped up since then though.

Musta been nice!

We spent 2 full days at BIAP and then 2 full days at Ali before finally going into lockdown on noon of the 3rd day.

Of course, coming back through was maybe a 2 hour stop to get our gear and then back on the plane.

The guys who could make it to Kuwait then suddenly get "stuck" there were the most obvious.

I was always in and out of Kuwait within 24 hours.

There are always valid exceptions. They shut down flights for a couple of days once when a plane wiped out on the runway. Stuff happens, I understand that.
