Good article about questioning why we do things on the range by Rob this issue.

Clearly, he has seen many "not so bright" things happen by both experienced and novice shooters and it is nice to get that kind of perspective. It made me think about what I am doing when I load up on the range or before I hit the street and whether it is right or wrong. I know many people may question his comments on tac reload and on "checking the chamber" but he has some very valid points. It made me think and probably change a few things, too.

Thanks to Rob for a great article and much thanks to Rich and Denny for another great issue (I'm currently only halfway through it).

Kind of a weird coincidence. I ordered some video Rob has out after Edward got it www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=9&f=7&t=225714 and today I got a different video from Guns and Ammo that is part of some "defensive dvd series" they are starting and it looks like Rob Pincus did it. I've never been impressed with the few videos on shooting I've bought, maybe these'll be better.

I have trained with Rob at Valhalla. He does read on here but hardly posts, I wish he wrote more in SWAT Mag, if you liked his writing in SWAT, snag his book "Combat Focus." its a short read and he expresses his concepts very clearly.

I personally like the guy the best out of everyone I have trained with, it does not have anything to do with the fact he has a world class facility, his combat focus procedure works well for most applications I think.

Aimless, those videos are very good. Though oriented for all levels of shooters, I think you will enjoy them.

Cold, I read the book and love it. I look forward to training this winter with Rob when he comes to MN as a guest instructor for Defensive Edge.

I've been out there one time. Rob is awesome. He struck me as a very genuine, considerate guy.
The facility was top notch and it was a great experience for me. I look forward to going back.

When you meet him, tell him his "boys" say hello, TellUrider and I were among his youngest students when they first started up at Elk Mt Resort. He also liked the fact we listened and gave his methods a try...that and according to him, ran his courses of fire better then 75% of the "vets " he sees. We meet up every SHOT SHOW and he always askes me to the SWAT Mag Operator Party but I never can go as I usually have dinner plans by the time he asks.

He is great guy. I wish I didnt move further away from his facility or Id be back more often.

Hey guys!

First thanks for reading the Article and thinking it was worth posting about, Mcnielsen. I knew the article would be controversial.. it is definitely a choice for many between "Finally!" and "Heresy!", but that's okay... the discussion of new ideas is how we progress and I'm well aware that much of my curriculum is challenging to a lot of people's dogma...
Sully sent me an email earlier this week and I need to get with him on the details, but it looks like we will definitely be getting a course in MN together in 2008! I am looking forward to it.

And I appreciate the feedback on VTC Courses and the books/videos.

As noted above, I'm not really active on many forums anymore, but I am constantly checking Email: vscrob@msn.com.

Cold,

Send me an update. See you at SHOT.

I have been an instructor who has witnessed many of the things you mention in your article and I think the key point as you have mentioned is to know WHY you do certain things and the right time to do them.

Checking the chamber excessively, for example, may be unnecessary and get inexperienced shooters injured. Experienced shooters, OTOH, should know when they have a round in the chamber and when they need to check. Mindlessly checking the chamber may be a bad habit to develop as I understand your point.

Thanks for your comments, Rob!
