Texas A&M to the SEC? Rumors are swirling...

I'll bet in the next year or two OU and A&M go to the SEC and Texas goes independent. The downside to this will result in the loss of those two rivalry games. If OU and A&M go to the SEC I doubt either will be interested in playing Texas as one of their three non conference games. That would create an unnecessary hardship on their schedules considering they would still have to run the SEC gauntlet as well. Appearantly Texas is so hell bent on getting their beloved Longhorn Network up and running they are going to by proxy eliminate their top two rivals from every playing them for a very long time.

I think Texas will suffer in the long run, especially after the NCAA permanently rules the Longhorn Network is only allowed certain things otherwise running afoul of NCAA violations, all while OU and A&M will prosper in the SEC. So thanks to the greed in Austin, some of the rivalries that make college football so great, OU/Texas at the Cotton Bowl and A&M/UT on Thanksgiving night will be lost for a very long time.

Your thoughts?

No way that is going to happen, it would ruin one league and dilute the quality of play in the SEC. Hell, it is bad enough to have Arkansas in the SEC, the SEC does not need any additons at that this time.

Big 12 is already ruined without Nebraska and Colorado.

Sure it can happen.
With Texas A&M, the SEC gets a major inroad to the Texas recruiting base. It also adds more Texas viewers to its televised games, including big markets like Dallas and Houston, thereby increasing TV ratings. The increased ratings means bigger and better TV contracts.
Okalhoma might also follow A&M into the SEC.
Follow the money.

I think you're right about the non-conference games. If Texas and Oklahoma get split, the Red River Rivalry will be no more.
And that sucks.

That would be a sad day for college football if rivalry games like Texas-OU ceased.

No joke.
The Big 12 is weak now. There's always going to be talk of "we got the shaft because of our schedule" and if that game is gone, it'll be even worse.

To quote Neal Boortz about Texas A&M going to the SEC, "The IQ in both the Big 12 and the SEC just jumped by 20 points."

So is the University of Texas' greed the cause of the Big 12 implosion?

Yes and no. UT saw a way to make a TON of money and took it. TAMU sees the Longhorn network as being an unfair advantage so they want to leave. IMO neither team are in the wrong.
