Title sums it up. Wife is taking one class this summer, and then heading into grad school in the fall. Her cira 2006 Toshiba Satellite isn't going to cut it. Next up the ladder is my cira 2010 Latitude E6500 (which currently needs a new battery).

What / where is the best deal going on a 15" general purpose laptop at this time? Hell, depending on the deal, rather than spending $70 for a new battery for my E6500, I might just upgrade it, too.

This will be coursework in the medical field, so no specialized video, graphics, etc requirements...just looking for a good laptop that will take us the next 3 years or so.

With school of any sort, but especially higher education you don't want to skimp. You want to go with a business level laptop not a consumer level. You are looking at the 800 to 1000 dollar range. The last thing you want in grad school is computer problems due to cheap assed hardware in your new Walmart/Bestbuy Acer special.

+1 on any business model laptop. Don't skimp if possible. And be sure to setup some kind of backup for all of her documents and research etc..
