How to make my netbook faster?
I just bought a Dell inspirion mini 10 (impulse buy). I didn't expect it to be super fast, but it is painfully slow. So far it's running mcafee(sp?) and I've already downloaded ccleaner, defraggler, and google chrome. I've trimmed it down software-wise to the best of my knowledge.
What else do I need to do?
Go to windows settings, and choose "select for best performance" so that the glass, and all that jazz is turned off (why waste clock cycles when you don't have many to begin with).
Reduce or remove programs running in the background.
Less screen resolution.
Don't run a bunch of shit at once.
You can't upgrade the RAM, IIRC
So, pretty much the only thing to do is make windows run on as little resources as you can.
It's not much good for anything but word processing and a little light internet use. Anything else is just too much for it.
Dump Mcafee and use Microsoft security essentials. If it came with 1GB of ram, upgrade it to 2GB.
My Aspire netbook's ram was upgradeable to 2 gig max. Others have had good luck with SSD's installed to speed things up. The Atom processor is just slow and if the battery gets below 15% it gets dog slow.
Evidently the RAM is soldered on in that particular computer. Getting a SSD is probably the only thing you can do hardware wise.
Return it if you can. Netbooks suck.
Upgrade to 2GB of ram and then install the netbook flavor of Unbutu
Disclaimer: My Mini 1012 is running 2GB RAM and Win7 starter .

This.
SSD, 2GB of RAM, fresh OS install, and 4GB SD card using Speedboost? My ASUS 1005 is smoking with that setup.

If the pc has 1GB, upgrade to 2GB or 4GB (if supported). Then:

It's a single core Atom N455 @ 1.66gHz, it's never going to be a speed demon.

I'm running Ubuntu on my old Asus 701 eee, 1gb ram, and firefox runs fine on it. All I use it for is surfing internet and OpenOffice's version of excel.
