 my bi-weekly stupid question

My desktop has suddenly decided t is going to drop my internet connection randomly.
It's hard wired into my wireless router and none of the laptops, i-touch or smart phones are doing the same thing.
If I go to internet connections in control panel, right click on my connection (which shows it's connected) and click on the repair tool, it fixes it temporarily.
The only program that has been updates lately is my avg anti-virus and I'm hesitant to disable that to see if it's the cause.
Any suggestions for a computer dumbass?

Check the ethernet cable to make sure its all good. Could be a hardware problem with the computer, router, etc. move the ethernet cable to a net port on the switch after checking the cable to make sure it isn't frayed or have any other visual signs it could be the cause.

You could also have too few IP's available from the router, but I doubt this.

Try a different Ethernet cable, or plug and unplug the existing one a few times. It may just be a bit of corrosion, if the contacts are not gold plated, or something intermittent.

I would look at connections first.

Disconnect your PC from the router
connect one of your laptops to the router with the same Ethernet cable
observe if the problem reappears

If no the the problem is with your PC, call your internet tech support and have them help you troubleshoot it
If yes then the problem is with your Ethernet cable, router, or modem, or provider, call your internet tech support and have them help you troubleshoot it

I was kinda having the same problem. Since I have NVIDIA ethernet, I went into the NVIDIA ethernet configuration (which is in the NVIDIA Control Panel), changed my "Device Sleep on Disconnect" from ENABLE to DISABLE. So far so good.

I don't know what you are using but there maybe something like that in your settings.

Just a guess.

Good Luck!

BTW - Video if you end up painting a bullseye on it!

humm..I have nvida as well. I'm on a laptop right now hard wired to see if it does it. But I will check that setting.
If I reformat with some 5.56..video will be posted.

5.56 or .308 or anything that goes boom is accepted when computers are involved.

I find .45 is better than rifle rounds when it comes to putting a computer out of my misery. Rifle rounds are too fast, some nice expanding .45 rounds hit hard and slow and seem to do more satisfying damage.

.45 ACP, 9MM, 10MM, .223, .308, .50 BMG, all good.

22lr too weak and might ricochet.

I once used 30.06 out of my Garand to put a laptop out of my misery, it was too much bullet and not enough fun. Ever since I used pistol rounds, they do more damage. Rifle rounds tend to just make a neat hole due to velocity, pistol rounds hit and at times expand doing all sorts of fun damage. Shotgun will work as well, though the amount of damage is too quick so your time in front of target tends to be less.

I don't have any pics of a .45, I will have to remedy that soon to show the difference. The above is what 30.06 will do. That was a Gateway 450ROG laptop, the biggest POS I even owned. They replaced it 3 times for me and I still continued to have problems. After two years I had actually been able to use it for a total of 5 months time, the rest it was either broken or in for repair. I finally broke down and bought a IBM T42p to replace it and put the Gateway out of my misery.
