Video up converter program?
I'm looking for a program that I can use to up convert some of my videos that I have on my CPU from grainy lo def footage to sparkling 720p or 1080.
I ran across a website in the past where you could do this with pictures but unfortunately I can't remember if it did videos as well and I also forgot the name of the site.
Are there any free programs out there that are easy to use that you would recommend?
You will never turn grainy lo-res footage into sparkling clean hi-rez footage. Can't be done. You can upconvert standard-def to high-def (cable service content providers do it all the time) but the old saying 'Garbage In-Garbage Out' is axiomatic in video.
Try AVS4You. It has some tools, and is very reasonably priced.
My suggestion is to get to know your local Broadcast and Professional Video Equipment Dealer. Another good source might be a local duplication house.
So is there anything out there that can clean up MPG movie clips?
It's not free, but check out vReveal.
My experience with it has been that it'll clean things up quite a bit, but you'll never get a pristine image. As mentioned above, garbage in - garbage out. vReveal just removes some of the garbage.
vReveal works best with a CUDA capable graphics card. If you don't have a CUDA capable card, each file is going to take some time to process. Until I bought a GTX470, one 2 hour file would take about 24 hours to process. Now it takes about an hour.
