Since you'll want to play games and watch HD video you're going to need something with a dedicated GPU.

I'm looking at them. The laptop I linked to will run the game fantastically. Far better than a laptop with a core i3.

+1 for Asus.

Edit: but for $500 you are going to be disappointed with the performance. To play games, you need more laptop.

My point was, while the amd laptop may run that game a bit better than the intel, you lose out in every other area with the amd cpu, which isn't worth it for this kind of low level gaming/task computer.

I don't buy that. That particular AMD cpu is very well rounded and in certain respects is more powerful than the intel one.

No way. The gpu on the amd system is better than the one in the intel. But the intel cpu beats the amd cpu hands down in just about every area.

That's the way its been for years.

When it comes to gaming and watching high def content the GPU is more important as it is far more powerful than the CPU used in either system.

This is another laptop to consider. It has a 2.4ghz Core i3 processor, and a low end dedicated graphics chip.

The cons are that it is currently out of stock, and I've had issues with Acer keyboards not being fit or working right in the past. Not sure if they still have issues with that.

If you need something to compare it against, or need a laptop pronto there is this one.
