Latest and greatest tablets - What should I buy?
Had no luck in GD so I'll give it a go here.
My laptop gave up its last breath after nearly 5 years, I've decided I don't really need a laptop a tablet would be more convenient.
Features I'd like to have, 8"+ display, rootable/custom roms, usb connectivity, 16gb+ storage, minimum 8 hour battery life for web surfing or atleast 4 hours+ on netflix, wifi obviously it'll mostly be used on my phones wifi, $500 or less, the ability to access media off of a usb hd would be nice as well.
What do you recommend to buy? What brands should be avoided at all costs? I see alot of chinese brands that I assume I should avoid, a couple brands I never heard of with ok reviews, Archos I think. I was kinda looking at the Toshiba as I've had good luck with laptops from them, also been eyeing a couple Asus's including the slider.
Finally, anything I should hold out for? I don't have to buy today I can wait a month or so if somethings due soon thats going to blow everything else away.

You will want to wait for tablets released later this year with 1920 X 1200 displays.
I read quad cores would be coming later this year don't think I can wait longer then month or two though. I figure no matter how long I wait somthing better will be out a month later.

This will be a critical year for tablets with many advancements coming. This year is more fast moving than typical, I can say that the wait will be worth it.

Alright well I guess samsung is suppose to be the first one out with one then apple, I don't think they have a price point yet though, I don't think I can get myself to spend more then $500 though considering anymore then that I am entering i5 laptop range.

I wouldn't suggest it if it were not in your price range. Tablets are getting cheaper. This would probably handle all your needs for half the price.

Yeah that one doesn't look to bad depending on what kind of storage it has. I'll try to hold out longer but getting tired of using my tiny 4.3" screened phone when traveling.
