My wife's laptop (a gateway laptop md2614u) had a problem the other day. The prong of the power unit that connects directly onto the motherboard broke off, and now her computer is completely dead and I need to get her a new motherboard.
My question is, does it matter which motherboard I get, just so long as it matches up with the Power Supply Unit's wattage?

Agreed. Replacing the laptop main board is not that easy. the connector is most likely standard and easy for an electronics repair shop to acquire and replace.
The motherboard is also most likely proprietary amd you have to get the same exact one that it came with if you were going to replace it.
Ok, thanks guys. Just didn't know if they could do that or how much it would cost.
Best answer.. vvvvv

I have replaced a motherboard in a laptop before and all I can says is, absolutely never ever again. I basically rebuilt it completely.. And it still died within a year.
