A night at a haunted hotel

Not everyones cup of tea.
But I spent the night shooting a "haunted" hotel out in west Texas this weekend.

It was raining outside, so shooting at the next location was a bust.

I tried to call the wife to tell her I would be home in 3 hours. This was around 12.
She had gone to bed expecting me to not be home til later Sunday.

Our door makes a loud cracking noise when you open it.
She comes out with her .357 drawning down on me, but then realizes its me.
Said why didn't you call, I almost shot you.

I said thats my girl, thats exactly how I would have wanted you to react. But thanks for not shooting me.
Then tell her I did call, you were just asleep and did not hear the phone ring.

Good to know she will actually act instead of freezing in fear like most people.
I taught her well.

Nice work as always, but honestly, I'd love to see those without the color flash.

Sometimes when we go out, we do not use color, sometimes we do.
I think it depends on our state of mind at the time.

I did convert a lot to black and white, they look pretty cool.
Maybe I will post those later.

It's not a ghost, there are not such things IMO...
Just one of us standing there for half the exposure time then moving out of the way.

How did you do the funky colored lighting? Looks pretty damn slick!

Colored LED glow sticks and also colored gels.

Freakin' cool effect. I'll have to keep that in mind for "creepy old abandoned building photograpy"!

The lighting reminded me of the Batman movies that were directed by Joel Schumacher. Very colorful yet mixed with black and grey. I like it. Keep up the good work.

Do you pop a quick off camera flash and then do a short extended exposure to pick up the colored gels or do you just go longer with the light sticks/gels?

Most are long exposures with flash pops when/where needed....with gels over the flash a well.
