High end PS or micro 4/3 that will go wide, raw, and manual?

Ok just sold my canon 5dmkII's, and most of the L lenses. I no longer shoot pro and just don't need it.

What I do need is small camera that will allow RAW, manual, and WIDE. I have a Canon G12 but 28mm is just not wide enough. I take it on mountaineering trips weekly and need wider. I was looking at those micro 4/3 cameras and they look promising though I don't want to spend much over $500 as the camera gets treated bad and could be dropped thousands of feet and lost. I also have a GoPro helmet cam that is ok for sketchy sections but not the best image quality.

any recommendations?

I really like my Panasonic 4/3 but to go as wide as you want you'd want either the Pana 7-14 or the Olympus 9-18 and either of those would break your $500 limit before you even look at a body to mount them on.

Have you considered a wide angle adapter to mount on the G12? I've never tried them but maybe there's something that doesn't destroy the image quality?

If you are looking to sell the g12 to finance something else shoot me an IM.

I was looking at the new Nikon 4/3 and was pretty impressed. They make one with a finder and without. Best Buy had them.

It's a very nice camera but it is not a part of the 4/3 or micro 4/3 system.

Have you looked at the Canon S100? It seems to meet your criteria. I love mine - it allows for manual controls and RAW shooting in a pocket sized package. It's not that much wider (24mm), but I'm not sure you're going to find an ultrawide with the other criteria you seek.

Yea may pick one up later after I get rid of my G12. Just picked up a clearance Olympus Pen EP-1 body and am shopping for a wide lens. Besides the performance I really liked the old school look and metal body. A little more than I wanted to spend once I get the lens but it will do all I want it to do in a smaller package than a DSLR. Feels weird after over 10 years of buying only canon. They have some nice glass available in the micro 4 3 format and it's pretty small in size.

If you can find a good deal on the 9-18 then I think you'll be really happy.

I replaced my S90 with a Panasonic GF2 and 20/1.7 lens and I have been very impressed with the images I'm getting. It won't replace my 1Ds for portraits and it won't replace my 7D for sports or wildlife but as a general purpose, carry it everywhere type of camera this little Panny seems very capable.

Used Gf1 or g1 and rokinon 8mm fish with adapter? should be close to $500. Not too small though the 8mm is somewhat big (in m4/3rds size) especially adding the adapter.
