Battlefield 3: 3 new expansions coming this year
From
the press release:
EA ROLLS OUT THREE THEMED EXPANSION PACKS FOR MULTI-PLATINUM BATTLEFIELD 3
As Fans Continue to Devour the First
Expansion Pack, Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand, DICE Announces Three New
Packs that Expand the Smash Hit with New Modes, Maps and Weapons
Guildford, UK. – March 7, 2012 – The
Battlefield™ army is over 12 Million strong and growing every day as
Battlefield 3™ and its first expansion,
Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand
continues to recruit gamers around the world with its dynamic sandbox
gameplay and state-of-the-art technology. Today, DICE, an Electronic
Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio, demonstrates its ongoing commitment to
fans by unveiling three new themed digital expansion packs* that will
enhance the superior
Battlefield experience with fresh and
innovative gameplay, new modes, unique environments and more ways to
wage all-out-war on the battlefield. Powered by the
Frostbite™ 2 engine, the next expansion packs are:
Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June,
Battlefield 3: Armored Kill in the fall, and
Battlefield 3: End Game in the winter.
·
Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In
Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war.
Frostbite 2
high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as
everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will
feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and
broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and
vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment.
Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.
·
Battlefield 3: Armored Kill– Following the tight infantry gameplay of
Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release
Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only
Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more,
Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in
Battlefield history.
·
Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.
·
Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand –
Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand is available now for download for £11.99 or 1200 Microsoft points and features four of the most beloved
Battlefield 2™
maps (Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island and Sharqi
Peninsula), all fully re-imagined utilizing the power of the Frostbite 2
engine.
Patrick Bach, Executive Producer,
Battlefield 3 said,
"Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a
completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the
action fresh. Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active
fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic
and unpredictable every time.”
Battlefield 3 is supported by a robust, and completely free social platform called
Battlelog
that invites players to compete, communicate and play with friends.
Gamers track personal stats, compare against other players and join a
platoon in an effort to dominate the battlefield. To add to the
competitive fervor, a fully integrated rent-a-server program for console
players will be available for gamers to play online with friends the
way they want to play in either private, public, ranked or unranked
matches. For more information about these enhancements and future plans
for
Battlelog, please visit

Single player blew chunks. I had a save file error that wiped my single player game about 3/4 of the way through the campaign. Instead of starting over I folded the disc in half and threw that pile of garbage in the trash where it belonged.
Single player is nothing more than a lame tutorial for learning how to aim in FPS mode. It sucked out loud just like Modern Warfare/COD story line.
Hey EA. Don't waste your time with stupid story crap and save us paying 20 dollars for a game. Either do that or put more time into the multiplayer as well as developing a server browser that isn't a confounded pile of crap(both the PC and Xbox means of joining servers sucks).
More maps and vehicles? Good.
Wait, $15 a piece?
This will split up the community, just great. Some of the maps are already entirely dead (Teharn) and some suck so bad (Wake Island), you would think they would at least release some free content. But I guess this is EA...
I'll end up buying them anyways though.

Of course you will...just like the rest of us.

Sure will....$105 invested in this game once all three expansions are out.
I paid $15 - $20 for at least 3 expansions for BF2. Nothing new for them to charge for them. I just don't like the fact that they are giving us infantry maps first. Armored Kill better be awesome!

I paid $42 for BF3 + Karkand. Doubt the other three expansions will cost that much.

i enjoyed it until hackers got a hod of the net code not it seems like nothing more than a hack fest i kinda wish i could get my money back because its not enjoyable to play against hackers every game.
In fairness, I would expect you'll get at least a few maps for that $15, same as for COD. I don't see getting the CQB maps, but the Armor ones sound right up my alley.

A few maps aren't worth even close to $15.
Just a few years ago games would get plenty of maps (10 or so) for free to keep the game alive as well as other new content. Plus custom maps via mods. Anyone remember UT 2004 and RO? While Crysis Wars didn't have any updates, at least there was a decent amount of custom maps.
I would love to see End Game include mod tools. That would make sense if it's the last DLC they plan to do for the game.
Remember, it is EA. The only thing they care about is providing the bare minimum that they can to rake in as much profit as they can.
I remember all the BF2 add on packs. There was one or two interesting maps but nothing spectacular.
I think the more maps they add the more it's going to make the Xbox experience suck. There are indeed certain maps that come about that will cause roughly 1/2 the server population to drop out and go jump in another server. It will get to the point where you spend more damn time in a loading screen backing in and out of maps/severs than you actually spend playing.
I was half tempted to buy/build a new PC for BF3 alone but I didn't because I suppose my time I am willing to dedicate to gaming is much less than it once was. I'm much more casual about it and like being able to sit on the couch and play from there. I still hate the etch-N-sketch controller sticks of the Xbox, as well as other frustrations, but I'd rather deal with that then build a new PC and deal with the Origin bullshit, the non-ingame server browser, and what is being described as a hacker plagued game.
New driveable tanks and mobile artillery? Sounds awesome.

I can't wait. Love me some BF3.
I'll be passing on this one.
I'm generally not a fan of the infantry stuff (tanker here) but that map looks freaking bad ass.
As to charging for expansion packs, any of you guys remember the Mechwarrior series? Each pack that came out was around $15.00 and for those of us who were in the game, it was well worth it. I'll be buying these.
Looks kind of fun, but you know its going to be all USAS because people cant be bothered to aim

Equal amounts of skill and LUCK!!!

At Tehran Highway on CQ...hit a sniper in the corner of a rooftop based on pure luck. Hit him 2 more time, once on luck, the other I didn't move and he returned to the same spot. Dork!
