State of the Site - May/June
Ok it's been a while since I posted one of these, and I apologize.
Perhaps I should preface this post with what it should be, "State Of Goatboy's Sanity!" [;)] I'll just leave things as having been very busy and exciting for me, which in turn has left me with very little free time to work on the site.
Here's a quick summary of where things stand.
- Amazing Support!
It's safe to say that this community has never been stronger. This year we've seen an incredible amount of ownership taken by everyone here. With the times being tight financially for everyone, we saw a significant drop in advertiser support. For the past month or so, things have finally picked up. Without YOUR support, our immediate future would have been very cloudy.
As June quickly approaches, the next billing period for our dealers and advertisers is beginning. Anyone interested should email me. [=)] With a great outlook on the end of this year for advertiser support, we've already begun a few exciting upgrades for the site.
- Network Architecture
We've been working with the phone company to line up a set of upgrades. The first is an updated hardware for our server room. This should help with a few random outages we've had. I blame this on myself (and so did the ISP) as it should have been reported sooner. I want to thank them for their great service. At the same time, we'll be upgrading our bandwidth to increase the site's response times to everyone.
- Site Code
A few minor changes and additions will continue to take place with the site, but most of the focus will shift to the rebuilding of the site into a more responsive code base. We'll finally be taking time (as much as possible!) to move the software to the cutting edge of today's internet. No existing software package is close to where we're taking the code here. This is just another example of our dedication to the strength of the firearm community.
- Servers / Hardware
We recently purchased a pair of servers which are going to go into the mix. Their exact roles are yet to be determined, but it was a deal we could not pass up, and should help replace some older hardware for a few years. (Yes, these things are so nice, they should still be running the site in 2-3 years!)
One item which I have had less and less time for has been projects. Instead of dropping them, I have found help in the SrStaff. The 2003 SEBR looks to blow past projects out of the water, and everyone can thank ARMALITE for their amazing support. Along with this years SEBR, a few secret projects are taking shape. More on those as we finalize the deals. Finally, the GUNSTOCK gathering (National AR15.Com Convention) is being worked on, and more will be announced as soon as possible. A number of changes have caused us to take a bit of time to refocus.
I think that about does it for now. I'll try to do this more often and keep everyone informed of what's taking shape behind the scenes.
Please remember that all account issues should go to ACCOUNTS@AR15.COM so that they can be taken care of ASAP!
