Congrats, that's very cool.

Those are awesome looking rifles, I've thought about adding one to my collection someday.  I've heard the recoil is pretty hard, is that true?  How heavy are they?

It depends on what you are used to shooting...  compared to an AR carbine, they are heavy and jump around much more.  The "target" PTRs with the heavy barrel and aluminum handguards are especially heavy.  The HK profiled barrel ones are probably a full pound lighter.

Compared to other MBRs they are about average, weight wise, and although they jump more than an AR, they are very far from being punishing or uncomfortable to shoot.

Just picked it up a few days ago. Can't wait to try it out. I just threw the AIM optic (1.5 x 4) on for right now until I can afford a better scope but I might just end up using the iron sights instead.

Edit:

Put a little paint on it yesterday afternoon.

How are you liking the new FLIR unit? I am seriously considering one, but would like to hear some first-hand experience with the unit before I take the plunge.

9.5" 300BLK with Timney, Seekins lower, Head Down Provectus keymod handguard, Laser Max UNI-IR on top (behind neutral density filter I made), UNI red laser on bottom, and a 952V.  Suppressor in pic has been replaced with a Liberty Mystic.  Optic swaps back and forth between a 2-7X32 VXR and a Thor 320 2x 60 hz 30mm.  I love this short barrel rifle.

Just finished the painting and reassembly today.
All the lettering turned out great, they were originally filled in with crayons because i was bored one day then painted over and scraped out with a safety pin.

LaRue = awesome, that's a given but that homemade paint job looks awesome too.  Seriously, that is probably the best looking home done paint jobs I've seen so far, I like the combination of "snakeskin" and grass.

I second that.  Pretty sure I have the same laundry bag.

I'm also pretty sure I don't have the balls to throw it over a $2-$3K rifle and optic and start spraying.  The crayon trick really makes it look pro.

New 300blk rifle. AAC bbl and upper. Gunfighter CH and VTAC rail, with a Surefire vamp light and a Torch pro with an Aimpoint Micro T-1. I only use 20 rnd mags for 300 so I don't get them confused with my 5.56 and have a bad day. Paint job took me about 1.5 hours. All Krylon

This is my bolt action choice for hunting.  It's my Savage 116 FCSS .30-06 with Accu-Stock, Accu-Trigger and Nikon Monarch 3 2.5-10X42 BDC.

For my lever action hunting, I have my Henry Big Boy .45 Colt (top) and Winchester 94 .44 magnum (middle).

For my semi auto hunting I pick from these 3.  The first being my Colt LE6920 5.56 with Trijicon ACOG and Crimson Trace MVF-515 vertical grip light/laser.

My second semi auto choice. A Loki Weapons System .264LBC (6.5 Grendel) with 18" stainless Liberty barrel, Hogue free float handguard, Fail Zero nickel boron bcg, Vortex Viper HS LR 4-16X44 Dead Hold BDC scope, LaRue SPR-S LT-158 scope mount.

My third and most fun.  My Alexander Arms lower/unknown manf. upper .50 Beowulf with Daniel Defense free float handguard, KA-0450 muzzle brake, LimbSaver recoil pad and Leupold VX-R Hog 1.25-4X20 FireDot scope.

They are all great hog hunting rifles, just need some hogs to shoot .

Ok, not a true hog hunter, not many opportunities out here in the mile high.  However, I do have just the ticket for hawgzilla.  Winchester M70 in 416 Rem Mag.  400gr Barnes bullets should punch thru the armor, shouldn't it? lol

Why limit, get both.

I never understood the Fudd mentality.  That guide gun is beautiful and would work great on pigs. But the AR-type guns seem almost purpose built for the task, why put them down?

Use what you have, or what you like.

A B&C composite stock, with the bed glassed and the barrel floated. The trigger has been adjusted to 2 pounds and the rifle sits on a Harris bipod. For glass I use a Pentax 6-24x Lightseeker scope with a mil dot reticle and target knobs. I use Sierra150 grain Matchking hollow point boat tail match bullets in my hand loads. With the rifle supported only on the bipod, I can routinely shoot 3 round groups at 100 yds you can cover with a dime. Only a handful of times in over 20 years have I ever had to put a second round in the hog. Most times they drop right where they are hit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/stm58/remington700.jpg

I usually catch a bit of ribbing for it but most hunts all I carry my M1 Garand and my .45 on my hip. Honestly, out to 200 yards why do you need glass on the rifle? Acquisition with iron sights is a lot easier and quicker than a scope anyway

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v138/stm58/m1.jpg

That Garand will do you for pretty much anything in the lower 48.  I love those rifles.

If I were using an AR for hogs I'd go 6.5/6.8 or maybe 300BLK with supersonics.

But 30-06 with a .45 backup sounds mighty good too.

Only downside is that if suppressors are legal where you hunt it makes a lot of sense to use one, and it would be downright criminal to thread a Garand barrel.

Compared to the modular AR which is quick to shoot, quick to reload, those guns aren't that great.

Just my ole trusty AR I built years ago chambered in 5.56. Have 4 just like it in the Death Bus. Been through 3 barrels and about to just replace the entire upper with same same. Got too much cam pin wear in upper receiver. Still shoots fine but I like eyeball popping action at 150 yds. Think Ill install a melonite treated barrel this time and paint her up Dark Earth. Has the same Titanium Hooper Ordnance Silencer (now "Hog Rush" brand) since day one.
