Only thing we ran into with those is that the trough would fill up with scratch and chickenshit in like, a day. So you gotta make a routine to clean it out. but otherwise it made watering much easier. Didn't have to haul water every damn day.

Like posted above, chickens will fill it with dirt, feed & shit in no time.

I got the gallon & half hanging waterer, hangs with base approx 10" off the ground, it swings easy when they try to jump atop to roost.

I use horizontal nipples in an elevated 5 gallon bucket with a Gamma seal and a 2 " hole and a rubber stopper in the top. When winter comes I use an aquarium heater.

The only downside is if you have a full size rooster with a large waddle he might have problems accessing water so I add one of these to each 5 gallon bucket, the rooster will kick the birds off his waterer

Have tried many types of waterers over the years. I prefer mine to have a constant supply of water as opposed to having to fill one periodically.
Found this on Amazon and I really like it.

ETA:  Regarding your "rooster drinking cup"  I'm thinking maybe those would be more successful for me overall than the little red cups with the yellow nipple thingies.  Those were useless in my chicken setup.  They didn't learn and even up on concrete blocks, the tiny cups filled with dirt and straw/crud and became unusable within a day.  The small size is the problem I think.   I didn't know about these larger ones.  PLUS...these fill with water with no activation by the chickens, from what I can see.

Is this correct?

@kitties-with-Sigs

There are two main types of larger poultry drinking cups made, one has an internal cup which has a removable insert for cleaning purposes which is what you want.  The less expensive ones are just one cup which means you got to take the entire water bucket out to clean the cups.  I keep my water bucket on cut rounds of wood which are a foot off the floor and they still muck it up in a few days.
They auto fill when mounted in a bucket.
I've had good luck with this particular cup, they're available on amazon.

I mount six cups in a 5 gallon bucket with a gamma lid.  I drill a two inch hole in the top, and press in a rubber stopper, which I cut a slit in the side. Winter time I use a 50 Watt submersible aquarium heater and run the cord through the slit in the rubber stopper.

Yes, it is hooked to 1/2 in. pvc that is buried except where it is stubbed up at the waterer. There is a shutoff for when I need to do something with the waterer that requires shutting off the water supply.
