I also am left handed and use this to attach slings to guns that don't have a right side front sling mount - (AK, Galil, Scorpion, MP5, etc).

They are metal coated with plastic and wont fail like paracord will from heat.

I have one of those I use to use on an AK.  The coating over the cable got melted by the barrel.  Don't know if it's improved by now, as this was 10 years ago.

Yeah the coating will melt but it's the best work around I've found.
