Not good. I hope they shut down the bridge and checked out the beams after that one, but railroads seem to do their own thing.
Often when a bridge gets hit with a glancing blow like that, you'll find the worst damage on the first beam and third beams, but not the second because of the bounce. Looks like the headache bar acted like the first beam, then the actual beam got hit on the bounce. |

It's almost always a railroad underpass.

Trucks hit the 'warning' device, ripped it off enroute to smash into the bridge. I think it lasted a few days. Not weeks, not months, not even a week. A day or two, and it was gone. |

Enact a new "hit the bridge" tax... $25,000 per incident.
Eventually they'd have enough cash to relocate the rail and/or the sewer line. |

They cannot "fix it," because there's a gravity sewer line under the road there that cannot also be lowered without completely redesigning the entire line ($$$$$) and to raise the bridge the railroad grade that crosses it would also have to be redesigned/rebuilt for miles in each direction (even more $$$$$). Their civil engineers did some magic and squeezed 8 inches out from between those restrictions not too long ago, and it has nothing left to give. Now it's up to the retards to stop acting retarded. |

There was a train trestle like that one next to the playground where I went to grade school. In 5 years I prolly saw 20 trucks stuck under it. A few happened during recess. I am sure the drivers loved looking up to see ~300 children staring open mouthed at their handy work. The playground fence was about 80 feet from the trestle. Good times.
