While we all know the AR eats the Mini's lunch they still are a very popular rifle.
12yr old me always wanted one so when I was 29 I finally got around to buying one.....it's actually a fun rifle in a way that's hard to describe. The AR does pretty much everything better but the Mini has this nostalgia factor to it Attached File |

I always found it to be fun handy rifle.

Yes. I had a mini before an AR. The AR was next.
I had a mini-30 so I voted yes. Close enough.
They’re neat, fun rifles. Just not ready for combat. |
I’ve got one. People that say, the current production variants are inaccurate are either lying or they are fools. But they’ll still be saying at 10 years from now.

Literally bought my first one over the weekend. Stainless and composite. Not my fave, but got it cheap and helped a friend in the process. Pics later.

I have an 82 mini 14 and am thinking hard about getting the a-team stock for it. Mini's are bad ass and legal just about everywhere in america. That's the advantage they have over ar's. You can take them with you on a road trip anywhere.

Got one for my 14th birthday, not kidding.
No. Shot them a number of times, they're cool. Back when I was shopping around for something like that (1988/1990) they cost twice as much as an M1 carbine. Got a carbine.

I have owned several Mini-14’s in the past, but currently do not own any. |

I have one. Bought it a couple years ago. Fun, handy rifle. This one was a LE gun for some time

I own three to be exact.

Inherited mine from a cousin that died swimming.
Will never sell it. Handy rifle and especially with a folding stock. |

I had one, didnt care for it and got rid of it.
What is with all the mini 14 threads here. |

Really cool rifle, but the mag changes killed it for me. It took me several seconds, maybe thirty, to get the damn mag to seat. The stock works itself loose as well. Sold it to my best bud who was well aware of my gripes with it. Still kinda miss it cause it was very cool and was 4 MOA gun with a holosun dot. |

Yep

I’ve had a few and still have one. Tempted to buy one of the new A-Team folders.
I had one back in the early 90s. Seriously inaccurate, got rid of it in favor of an Colt SP-1.
I had a stainless version from the late 70’s or early 80’s that my dad bought. I sold it when I started getting into AR’s. I still regret selling it but don’t want to buy another one.
Bought a new stainless mini 14 around 1983. I has it zeroed for the 1st round. Each round started drifting upwards. Ass the barrel heated up the point of impact changed dramatically. I finally traded it off. I do regret getting rid of it.

I had a mini-14 GB from Dixon correctional facility in Louisiana.

Ahh, but did any of you own the Muzzlite bullpup stock?
I did. |

The demand for ARs spurred many gun companies to get in on the action, making them as cheap or cheaper than Minis. |

Absolutely, and a folder even.

I had a stainless GB 20+ yrs ago and it was fun to shoot, but not nearly as accurate as any of my ARs. The magazines were stupid expensive and hard to find bac then but I had found the Eagle clear polymer mags were half the price and actually worked really well.
I traded it for a Ruger Alaskan 44 Mag. I don't miss owning a Mini 14 and have never really wanted another. |

Had one in the late 70's, thought it was pretty cool! Then I went target shooting and found it couldn't hold a decent grouping after rapid fire! Got rid of shortly after!
Always kinda wanted one but there's so many threads on here about them that it's almost like I have one already. This thread SAVED me money!
Nah.

I had a Mini-30 back in the 90's. Got my first deer with it. It also used to disassemble itself on the shooting bench - Blue and Grey R&P Club, Huntsville/Guntersville Dam, Al. Fixed that, then "accurized it" per the NRA Gunsmithing Guide for the M-14. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Sold it, never have missed it since then; sold all my Kommie Krap.

I wouldn't mind having one. I've got a lot of ARs. But it would have to be for a good price. They're so expensive now.
Had one. Think it was the 81 series. Would beat a scope to death before you could get it zero'd. Sold it & didn't look back. Wouldn't have another. Would take one if given just to resale to get a decent rifle.

I wanted to trade a 1978 Smith model 41 for a stainless one at a LGS but the guy said “that’s not a trade we’d be interested in” 🤔

It was perfect 40 plus years ago for a 12 yo. I saw an ad for it in readers digest and asked for one for my b day.
Not too accurate but reliable and held the interest of soon to be teenager. Grandfather kept it as his house. I still have it. |

Owned a stainless folding stock GB years ago. Bought it and 5 original Ruger stainless 30rd mags for $250 off of a guy that needed cash fast.
Sold it during the Clinton Ban for around $1300-$1400 with 1 mag. Sold the other mags for $100 each. |

I loved everything about mine except the accuracy. I owned a late 90’s Ranch Rifle and with a scope it was 2 MOA at best. I’m considering purchasing a new model because of how much I liked my old one.

I had a mini 14 during the Clinton AWB. When the sunset came, I got my first AR, and sold the Mini 14 not to far afterwards.
