Went and shot the .300 BLK barrel in my AUG today.
Not really a ‘range report’, per se, and by no means scientific, just wanted to have a little plinking play, and mess around with the gas port settings a little. At this time, I didn’t care much about accuracy, as I was at an indoor range, and only shooting 25yds max.
I fired about 60 rounds.
40 147gr S&B SuperSonics. Cycled perfectly with them, using gas block setting #2 (standard setting ) mostly. Also ran setting #1 (low gas setting), the rifle cycled perfectly as well.
I also fired about 20 rounds of Ammo Inc 220gr subsonic. Unsuppressed (since I don’t yet have a suppressor for this gun).
The ‘LV’ setting is supposed to be for subsonic suppressed, but I used it to see if it would cycle this ammo without a can. I found that 8/10 rounds fully cycled and loaded the next round in the mag. 2 didn’t not.
Next 10 rounds of subsonic were fired with gas block in the #2 setting. 10/10 cycling.
When I got home, I found that I could not rotate the gas plug to remove it. It was pretty stuck.
A pair of needle nose pliers and a tap with a plastic mallet loosened it up and I removed the piston and spring.
Pretty dirty from just 60 rounds, especially compared to my 5.56 barrels piston after a 2-300 round session.
Tossed them in the ultrasonic cleaner and they look good as new.
I look forward to getting a suppressor, and a real range testing trip to see what it can do.
On a side note, I used regular PMags (my AUG is a NATO model), and as expected, they functioned flawlessly with the .300BLK rounds. I’m going to have to mark them as dedicated .300 mags, so I don’t fuck up and confuse them with my 5.56 mags.
