I am looking to get into a some longer range shooting but money is an issue. I will likely purchase a Remy 700 or Savage .308 within the next month or so.
I have a nice 3X9 Nikon scope on a Ruger .270 right now but it's just a vertical and horizontal line and my research tells me that I will need a mil dot. I also might want more than a 9x scope. Any advice on a good, solid optic that will not break the bank? Input on the rifle is welcome too, thanks. |

Inexpensive in the precision world of optics (especially this forum) is less than $1000
I'd recommend the following that I have experience with: Burris XTR SWFA SS Leupold MK4 *Not necessarily in that order |

If people stopped looking for things to be offended by they wouldn't be so ridiculously miserable.

Thanks, I will check those out.

A few yrs back, I walked into a gunshow and found a nice older gent selling scopes thta had target turrets, 1/8 moa. 6-24-50. the price tag was right under $200.
he let me take it outside and run it at full power and much to my suprise, the clarity was fantastic, i purposely aim in the direction of the sun and the glare wasnt bad at all. I went ahead and purchased it and bolted it to my LR308. The scope has held zero fantastically and for the money?..the glass is clear. Ive had shooting buds that own Springfields, Nikons, Leapolds and alike look through the scope and they 2 agree that the glass is pretty darn good. Even when Im knocking gongs at 1000yrds, it stays clear. Its no Leopold, or nightforce etc....but it gets the jobs done. and for the money...even better. The turrets are nice and tight, and have good quality detents. (wish it had zero reset) Ive look,d to get another one but I cant find the gent anymore at the shows (bummer)..Ive spotted them on the web but not for the price I paid for 3-4 yrs back., not even close the brand of the scope is called Eagle Eye Opitcs. again...for the money....they work great......course if you have a couple of grand.......Id get a Night Force |

When it comes to presision optics "good" and "inexpensive" typically don't belong in the same sentence.
With that in mind though there are some decent optics in the lower end of the price range. Take a look at the Vortex PST. It is quality glass, with the necessary features and great customer service. The value to price ratio is pretty high. Regardless of what you do, spend more money than you initially planned on quality glass. It's better to save a little longer and buy quality than to buy junk in a hurry. |

The Bushnell 10x40 mil/mil is a good, inexpensive option.

The Weaver tactical 3x15 EMDR from SWFA. Great optic and great price.

As has been mentioned, 10x mil/mil is a good way to get in the game and the scopes are relatively inexpensive
What's "Long Range," though? If it's real long you will want something with very good clarity. Need more info |

You can not beat this optic for quality, clarity and price.....Try and find a bad review...
Best name brand value for money on the market. http://www.opticsplanet.com/bushnell-elite-tactical-6-24x50mm-rifle-scope.html If you are NOT a Brand snob you could look at the following. Its nor FFP and its NOT a well known brand in the USA, although it is a top brand in Europe. Fantasic scope for the money. http://www.opticsplanet.com/hawke-sport-optics-endurance-30-sf-6-24x50.html |

Burris xtr 2 3-15x50 ffp with 34mm tube is like $800 at PA. Hands down the best thing you'll buy for anything under $1000....
If you have 1250$ you can get the new Nightforce shv FFP 4-14x50 model C557. |

Another vote for the SWFA SS

There is a used Weaver Tactical 4-20x50 on amazon for $635 right now.
First focal plane, 5 mil turrets. They have excellent glass for the money. |
|

The Nikon monarch line is pretty good for the price too, I have an older 4-16x with mildot and turrets I paid about $450, the monarch 3 would be about comparable in price to mine. The glass quality is great being Nikon and it's almost as good as my leupold mk4
