Just wondering if anyone does it and what you use

I use a diamond Stone.

Double edge wut? Knife? Razor blade?

I typically use DE blades 1-3 times and toss them because they are cheap and it’s not worth the effort to maintain them beyond that. Some folks apparently strop and store in mineral oil between uses.

I read American Guerrilla Wife by Spencer. She mentioned her husband tried sharpening his DE razor on a piece of glass?

Yeah - you may be able to "sharpen" a DE blade on glass with some extra fine polishing compound and a sharpening jig.
The idea is to remove absolutely minimal amounts of material while refreshing just the edge. |

Kitchen knives and pocket knives yes
Not swords and such I use Shapton ceramic stones Splash and go no need to soak or mess with oils Also ceramic wears a lot more even than other stones like a king stone. The other ones are great options but you’ll have to deal with flattening the stone more often than you’d want. Progression is 500 1000 6K I usually keep it at 6K for food because it leaves a bit of bite on the blade. If you have swords and want a mirror finish you can go way higher. |

They used to make a gadget, way back in the day, that you would insert a double edge razor blade and crank a handle and it would strop the blades. It would clean it up a bit but from what I've read on the subject, the blades were made of a softer metal back then. Todays ss might be too tough for this devise. I don't even know if anybody makes these things any more, might find one in an antique shop from time to time.

I always heard that blade corrosion is not from shaving, but from oxidation from moisture. I remove the blade from the handle and wipe it dry on a towel and also wipe the handle dry. Never did a study but I got into the habit and do it every time I shave.

I do that as well does anyone turn their blade over in the holder?

I use feather blades, but I do strop them with a fine rouge on a leather strop.
They are mass produced, and have defects like any other product. After stropping, my shave is very smooth with no nicks. |

My grandfather used to put the blade in a glass that didn't have much taper to it and using his index finger, would press on the center of the blade and move it from side to side, flip the blade and repeat.

While it's true that opinions are like assholes and everybody has one please bear in mind that not everyone wants to see your ass.
|
I have seen green, white and red compounds for stomping
Dies anyone know what are the different grits of each? |
