The SBR M5 has turned out to be amazing. Socom profile barrel, H2 buffer. Good deal

I can’t quite tell but the forge flashing might look a little better than some previously posted rifles?
Is it just some of the photos or is the upper receiver purple? |
|
|
I may have missed it earlier in this thread, but do these just use 6940 barrels?
Also, what gas length and barrel profile is on the 16" guns? |

@Minuteman1636
Do you know if Colt will be offering just uppers? Specifically looking for the 11.5" and 14.5" uppers. Thanks! |

Hopefully colt will offer these in upper form. The 16 inch M5 is carbine length. I shot the M5 SBR suppressed and unsuppressed today (LaRue Tranquilo) . The gas port is .74. I put a new gas tube on it that is .67. The barrel is socom profile.. I shot Mk318 Mod 1. 30 rounds. No issues. I put a LaRue MBT trigger in the gun as well. I noticed no impact change at 50 yards. It also has a nice Holosun green dot. I will get a photo posted soon.

Since Colt builds their rifles with correct gas port sizing and buffer weights for the barrel length and gas system length, the carbine gas isn't a turn off for me. |

MGSgt. I do like your M5 SBR, but why change to a smaller gas tube? Wouldn't it run suppressed with issued gas system? I realize & depending on the suppressor 'back pressure/ blow back.
I ask because my initial impression was that the original design Colt M5, doesn't it have an adjustable gas block? Are we being short changed? My Colt 11.5 barrel runs supressed fine ejects 2-3:30 by itself. Though, I ha ve another Colt 11.5 I've tuned with an Bootleg adjustable bcg and is very smooth like running a sewing machine & it ejects 3-4 o'clock. Did Colt change its design for the commercial market (no adjustable gas)? Eta: I could be mistaken and am thinking of the CM7 with adjustable gas. |

View Quote the 16 inch M5 is government profile with H buffer. the M5 is a very slick design. Once I took apart the SBR and checked it out and how the barrel and rail attach I was impressed. Much better set up then EPR. |

Has there been any indication when/if uppers will release separately?

What’s the barrel profile on the 14.5”/16” uppers? SOCOM?

Finally got around to ordering one of these M5s from AU, should be at FFL Thursday, hopefully they have it ready by Saturday to pick up.
Been off the Colt kick the past 3 months, been going to flight school then bought me a used Cessna lol. |

I got to inspect my 11.5” M5 at the FFL/SOT and noticed they changed the starboard side bolt release lever. The 10.3” should get here next week, but I think it will have the same revised lever. Never even looked at the pictures on AUs website before I ordered.

LOL - no idea. I guess in 9ish months I can play around with it while shooting and see if it makes a difference. It definitely sticks out a little more from the receiver than the type on the 16” M5. I don’t think there was any less or more of a gap between the lever and the receiver side - if that makes sense.

I picked up my M5 this morning along with the Euro Colt. Really stoked, the M5 looks amazing. Not sure which version bolt release I got, have to review that and take a look later. Only a quick inspection at the LGS.

I wonder how we would go about getting the new lever? It looks like it's drop in part. Does anyone have ideas on how to get the part?

Was it mentioned somewhere in these 12 pages that the M5 Sentry comes with a 6 position buffer tube instead of Colts normal 4 position?

All of my Colt carbines have 6 position Colt tubes on them but those were installed by Specialized Armament not Colt. I don't really use the extra positions so it's more of a cool thing to have than anything else.
